Yo!
September has ended so it's time to wake up! (If you get this reference you are pretty old ahaha.)
It should just be about crunch time for you guys (if you're still schooling, that is). While everyone is caught up in a flurry of studying and revising, perhaps it's good to take some time off to intentionally dive into God's presence – to meditate upon His Word, converse with Him, or simply sing praises unto Him.
Jesus says this in John 15:4–5: "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing."
To abide literally means to remain. Jesus tells us that we are to remain in Him because apart from Him we can't do anything. And "remaining" means that our entire lives are lived within His presence; it means that every single bit of our lives is about Christ – there is no way to separate our "spiritual" lives with our "secular" lives.
And really the only way we can remain tethered to God is by spending time and effort building our relationship with Him. So after reading this, consider taking a break from studying just to cozy into your personal fig tree – your private space with God.

// reading list
Are you living your life in such a way as to cause people to want what you have in Jesus? This is the question Ralph Juthman poses as he considers what it means to be a Christian who's contagious and infectious. It's quite a long read, but it spoke to my heart deeply and I hope it will ignite something in your spirit too.

The 5 Types of 7th Chords
I have an ongoing love-hate relationship with seventh chords: when used correctly, they really do add a lot of depth to what would otherwise be plain, straight music; however, they are often used incorrectly or are out of place and become distracting and jarring. This video shows the 5 common types of seventh chords and will hopefully help you to identify when and how to play the correct seventh chords. (Click on the image to view.)

Dwell
Waken – Dwell
Waken is a pretty young band but they definitely have a mature sound, and a listen will reveal the indie synthpop influences in their unique approach to corporate worship music. "Dwell" is their newest single (probably off their upcoming album) and is simply about God's presence dwelling in us; the somewhat ethereal quality of the music draws focus to the lyrics rather than the sounds that fade into the background and shows how music can fill space without being distracting. You can get all the music they've released so far here!

for KING & COUNTRY (feat. Andy Mineo) – Run Wild
There are many alt rock bands out there, but what sets 4K&C apart is their rich textures and thought-provoking lyrics. Their music often has an anthemic, rousing quality to it, and "Run Wild" is epitomic of this powerful character; it is a proclamation of freedom that God brings as He liberates us from the shackles of our past. Andy Mineo features on this track and his rapping adds another dimension to it, making this a solid song altogether.
