// editor's note
Greetings!
Today, I want to share something written by George Müller about life as a Christian:
"I saw more clearly than ever, that the first great and primary business to which I ought to attend every day was, to have my soul happy in the Lord. The first thing to be concerned about was not, how much I might serve the Lord, how I might glorify the Lord; but how I might get my soul into a happy state, and how my inner man might be nourished... I might in other ways seek to behave myself as it becomes a child of God in this world; and yet, not being happy in the Lord, and not being nourished and strengthened in my inner man day by day, all this might not be attended to in a right spirit." (from Autobiography of George Müller)
Sometimes we serve because we think it's a duty, or that it is something we ought to do: to be good stewards of our gifts. Certainly, these are all valid reasons, but the right action done with the wrong intention can be entirely meaningless. Instead, let us honestly find joy within the love of God, and let our service be an overflow of that joy – natural, organic, and sincere. That's what worship really looks like. Perhaps it's high time for us to fill our souls with God's immeasurable joy!

// reading list
Who doesn't want rehearsals to end early? Well, the only way that can happen is if everyone is prepared for rehearsals, not just technically but also spiritually. These articles share some reasons why preparation is important, and they give some practical advice on how we can prepare before rehearsal as well.
I don't think I need to say very much about this haha... just go and read the article haha. Yes, all of you. Stop giving me that look.

Chord Inversion Lesson
Chord inversions are something often glossed over; however, the subtle differences between different voicings can affect the mood: depending on how you play a progression, you could either melt into the background, or you could stand out with a sub-melody even if you're just playing chords. This lesson by Julian Bradley gives an introduction to chord inversions and also describes how to create smooth voice leading using different inversions. (Click on the image to view.)

I Must Find You
Young Oceans – Only You
Young Oceans is a band that produces an iconic indie sound: mild, textured, and full. They are perhaps an acquired taste, but they have an undeniable ingenuity for musical layering and reflective lyrics. "Only You" is a track off their album I Must Find You with a delicate meld of guitar, synth and pad sounds, making for an enjoyable listen. I'm totally digging their 7/4 track (Praise The Lord Ye Heavens) too.

All Sons & Daughters – All the Poor and Powerless
I love All Sons & Daughters because both the vocalists lend equal weight in their songs; their tight co-leading suits the acoustic-but-not-really style of their music. "All the Poor and Powerless" displays their authentic sound, which does not detract from their raw message. The bridge builds up very nicely from an exhortation to an anthem – it is perhaps worth pointing out that half of the entire 6-minute song is just the bridge, but the vast dynamic range means that it isn't boring or repetitive, but refreshing and definitely declarative.

As we step into the June holidays (for all you secondary school and JC kids), do remember to reserve some time to just bash on your piano/keyboard – trust me, it's highly cathartic. 'Til next time!
Over and out!
